The company has been helping organizations reach and maintain their NIST cyber security framework requirements for many years, and has taken the next steps to demonstrate CMMC proficiency.
Corey Kaufman is the company’s first Registered Practitioner (RP), trained to consult with companies regarding Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) compliance. The company will have four more RPs by March 2021.
Every company in the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain is required to comply with CMMC. Compliance is rolling out first to the top 15 prime contractors in 2021, but companies at all levels are on notice to take the first step to compliance with a self-assessment.
“We’re already seeing that companies are getting stuck on the self-assessment because they can’t pin down where the data that they’re supposed to protect is stored,” said Corey Kaufman, Director of Client Development at Accent. “As a Registered Practitioner, I can help them figure that out and guide them down their path to compliance.”
The consequence of non-compliance with CMMC is that a company may no longer be able to do business with suppliers in the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain. Losing a long-time customer or shutting off the possibility for new orders from the DoD would have a dramatic impact on the business success of a network of suppliers that stretches out to thousands of small and medium-sized businesses.
